MUNICIPALITY OF AUCE (REPUBLIC OF LITHUANIA)

Akmenė District Municipality and Auce Municipality of Republic of Latvia entered into cooperation agreement on 12June 2010. However, friendship and cooperation with Auce has continued for a number of years, yet earlier the town was a part of Dobele District Municipality.

Cooperation of art groups, sport teams and music bands, communities, institutions and organizations of Akmenė Municipality with those of Auce is exceptionally active on a daily basis. Moreover, the distance between Akmenė and Auce is as short as several kilometres, which helps to maintain active cooperation. Both municipalities have already implemented and currently implement a number of joint projects funded by the European Union.

Auce was actively involved in the project “One Europe – one family” initiated by Administration of Akmenė District Municipality, the EU funded project according to Europe for Citizens programme.

 

BOCHOLT (GERMANY)

Akmenė District Municipality and the city of Bocholt of Federal Republic of Germany entered into friendship agreement on 16 June 2000. Friendly relationship with Euregio gymnasium of this city and the Red Cross were initiated long ago, mostly thanks to Stasys Čirpus.

People from Akmenė and Bocholt maintain their relationship in different ways and levels: through exchange of delegations, groups of students, musicians, sports teams, participation in joint projects, and contribution to activities of the Red Cross and friendship of families.

Moreover, Bocholt was actively involved in the project initiated by Akmenė District Municipality „One Europe, one family“ funded by the Europe for Citizens programme of the EU.

BRYANSK (RUSSIAN FEDERATION)

Municipality of Akmenė District and the city of Bryansk of Russian Federation entered into cooperation agreement on 28 August 2004. Since then, on a yearly basis, official delegations of both partners visit each other, student camps are organized and other events are attended. As a result of this cooperation, residents of Akmenė had a chance to attend free concerts of high level musicians of Bryansk organized in various towns of the district. 

 

Chernivtsi (UKRAINE)

In 2005, Akmenė District Municipality established friendly relationship with the city of Chernivtsi, Ukraine. The official delegation of Akmenė District Municipality participated in the first international business forum CHERNIVTSI – 2005. Afterward, cooperation with representatives of this city has been maintained in international events abroad and unofficial meetings.

 

DOBELE DISTRCIT MUNICIPALITY (REPUBLIC OF LATVIA)

Akmenė District Municipality and District of Dobele entered into cooperation agreement in 1997. Subsequently, this agreement was improved and amended and, as a result, in 2002 and 2004 updated agreements were signed. Cooperation with Dobele includes fields of tourism, environmental protection, education, culture, implementation of projects. Close relationship between the districts was predestined by geopolitical situation, similar economic and social issues, trends in economic development and deep rooted traditions.

In 2012, municipalities of Akmenė and Dobele, as well as other municipalities of Latvia and Lithuania, and the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre were involved in implementation of a large-scale EU project Sustainable rainwater sewerage management for improved environmental quality of Lielupe river basin.

In 2013 and 2014 municipalities of Dobele and Akmenė exchanged official delegations during the major summer events.    

 

MUNICIPALITY OF KALUNDBORG (KINGDOM OF DENMARK)

In 2007, Akmenė District Municipality established relationship with the city of Kalundborg, Kingdom of Denmark. Local actions groups of Akmenė and Kalundborg have prepared a joined project, visited each other and successfully shared experience.

 

KONIN (REPUBLIC OF POLAND)

Akmenė District Municipality and the city of Konin of Poland Republic entered into the agreement of regional cooperation on 21 September 1999. Since then, official delegations pay visits to both cities, international summer camps for children are held, artists participate in music, art events and festivals.

In 2006, another important step was taken towards development of friendship between Akmenė District and Konin: official connection was established with a non-governmental organization Eurokon 1993.

In 2014, Konin was actively involved actively involved in the project “One Europe – one family” initiated by Administration of Akmenė District Municipality, the EU funded project according to Europe for Citizens programme.

 

 

REČYCA DISTRICT (REPUBLIC OF BELARUS)

On 16 November 2012, Akmenė District Municipality and District of Rečyca of Gomel Region of Belarus entered into agreement regarding cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, science, including technical, cultural and social matters.

In 2013, the official delegation of Akmenė District Municipality attended events related to 800th anniversary of Rečyca city. In 2014, the first official delegation of Rečyca District paid a visit to Akmenė District Municipality.

 

RUSTAVI (GEORGIA)

Official relationship between Akmenė District Municipality and the Georgian city of Rustavi was established in 2013.

In 2014, official relationship was strengthened by seeking to sign a protocol of intent concerning mutual cooperation.
